Investigation Blogpost: Week 13

This Week's Work: Tuesday (2/22): Continue modeling interior Wednesday (2/23): Continue modeling interior Thursday (2/24): Continue modeling interior Friday (2/25): Continue modeling interior ~ Progress: Room Overview Bed + Bookshelf Models Chair + Table Models I've been working on recreating the room I designed earlier in my planning period. I haven't modeled any objects in a minute, so I had to reacquaint myself with the process. In creating the objects, I'm trying to blend extravagance with practicality (seen mostly with the chairs at the moment). I don't know how much I want to experiment with shapes, yet. However, modeling the chairs was fun and refreshing compared to modeling the rather plain bookshelf. Of course, I think the set will come more to life once I texture everything.  Another thing I'm battling with is the size of the room. It's smaller than what would be expected for a royal chamber, but at the same time, it's so sparsely decorated tha...

Investigation Blogpost: Week 12

This Week's Work: Monday (2/14): Continue modeling interior Tuesday (2/15): Continue modeling interior Wednesday (2/16): Continue modeling interior ~ IK: I had downloaded a rigged model of a knight character I needed for my story instead of making one. I examined its rig and wondered how/why it differed so much from mine. I had, of course, assumed it wasn't done using the rigify modifier. It was a lot more simple and easy to understand than what I'd done for the models that I made, though. I remember last year when I was doing my character actions animation/final project where the rig for that model too was intuitive and easy to manage. Knight Model: https://blendswap.com/blend/28541  Farmer Girl Model (from last year): https://blendswap.com/blend/22891 So I looked up a tutorial on how to make quick and easy rigs. I found a relatively short video that explained how to add IK controllers to your mesh that provided the same streamlined way of posing as the other rigs did. I w...

Investigation Blogpost: Week 11

This Week's Work: Monday (2/07): Model reaper clothes Tuesday (2/08): Finish model reaper clothes Wednesday (2/09): Rig reaper model Thursday (2/10): Begin modeling interior Friday (2/11): Continue modeling interior ~ Moving Forward: I've reached a good point in my project - I'm all done modeling my characters! They are all modeled, rigged, and costumed. When I was creating my king model (aka my base model), I was concerned with how long it was taking me, and was especially worried that I wasn't on the best track to finishing my animation on time. To my surprise, creating the reset of the cast was quite easy. The hardest character to model was the gnome character due to the drastic difference in height and build. Once I completed him, the rest came easy and each one took less and less time to make. I feel a great weight lifted off my shoulders.  Modeling the environment, while not my forte, will go by quick enough as there's nothing really new for me to learn. I...

Investigation Blogpost: Week 10

This Week's Work: Monday (1/31): Fix king model clothes; Begin modeling peasant body Tuesday (2/01): Finish modeling peasant body Wednesday (2/02): Begin modeling peasant clothes Thursday (2/03): Finish modeling peasant clothes; Rig peasant body ~ Figuring Out Clothes: Initially, when I began creating the clothes for my models, I would build the outfit based off of the base model. For the two models I did that for, the king and gnome models, it came out looking really awkward. The worst was the arms and the backsides. The tutorial I followed to make the bodies structured the elbows and butt in a certain way to aid the movement of the character, but it only made creating the clothes harder. The butt specifically is too high on my models so structuring the fit of the outfits was awkward. Then, the build of the arm made the sleeves of the shirts look awkward. The elbows specifically jutted out which looked really ugly. I was recommended this video that would make creating clo...
