End of 3rd Marking Period Checkpoint

End of 3rd Marking Period: Intention Definition & Exploration of Ideas: My concept is Legacy, based on the "Looking Inward: The Human Experience" theme. With the reviews we were doing on artist's styles and the effect and influence they left on the world, I started to think about how I wanted my last project at CV to come out. The fact that it was my last year and I was looking at colleges and trying to put together my portfolio, it all kinda came together into the one question of "What do I want people to know me by?" The film idea really bloomed from that. I took that anxiety I had about my future and my "legacy" and tried to make sense of it through a more fantastical setting. I went with the king idea as soon as I chose my concept. I think legacy and royalty go hand-in-hand and it makes for an interesting setting for an animation. Planning: The base of my designs all came from this one page in my notebook. I knew I wanted it to be after a king ...

Investigation Blogpost: Week 15

This Week's Work: Monday (3/07): Modeling furniture Tuesday (3/08): Modeling furniture Wednesday (3/09): Modeling furniture Thursday (3/10): Modeling furniture ~ Fixes: I want to start animating by next week, so I have compiled a list of things I need to fix asap (most likely over the weekend). The list isn't arranged in order of urgency, just a compilation of stuff that is important for the final product to look alright. There are actually a couple of problems displayed in this screenshot. The most important one to me is that using the IK bone at the bottom of the feet (highlighted in blue) does not properly move the leg. Specifically, when I raise the foot, the knee turns inwards. The only way for me to correct it is to use the circle (also highlighted in blue) to adjust the position. The thing with that is -apart from being tedious - it also stretches out my model, making it look really funky and unrealistic. I think the best course of action is to look into the bones and ...

Investigation Blogpost: Week 14

This Week's Work: Monday (2/28): Continue modeling interior Tuesday (3/01): Continue modeling interior Wednesday (3/02): Continue modeling interior Thursday (3/03): Test King model rig ~ Getting ready to begin creating actions, I decided to research how to make a character interact with objects. I've never had to do that before, but this project kinda requires it. Luckily, I found a short and sweet video that breaks down how to do it. I'm documenting it so I can look back on the steps once I do the actual actions. The creator added a bone that intersected both the object and the character model. He then parented the object to the bone (with automatic weights). In pose mode, he added a bone constraint, making it the "Child Of" the left hand bone. Lastly, he clicked the "Set Inverse" button. Using this simple tutorial is sure to give my animation more realism, and come out with a more refined product!
