Artist’s Statement
I create art because it makes me happy! I find a lot of satisfaction in planning out ideas whether it be individual art pieces or animations. It’s rewarding for me to be able to break down every aspect of my work and be able to explain it afterwards too. Of course, it also feels good to be able to claim any unique product as mine. It feels as if I’m adding something to the world, to the culture and that mindset inspires me to create more and more. So, it just becomes a loop of me being happy and creative which is an outlet I do not really find anywhere else.
I grew up with a great interest in animation. I loved watching behind-the-scenes work on some of my favorite movies as a child, The Lion King for example. This interest grew into me wanting to be a part of the process. I started out with just drawing, as it was my only skill at the time, I had my sights set on being a character designer. After taking a 3D Digital Design course, I fell in love with 3D modeling. I’ve always been acquainted with computers due to my dad’s job, so it was an easy transition for me. After taking the course, I realized that 3D animation combined everything I’m interested in: animation, computers, drawing, and storytelling! It all clicked for me and had me reinvigorated to make more art. I love to create and I’m glad I found a medium that would allow me to achieve that in the best possible way.
For my final project at CV, I wanted to play with the idea of legacy. Since it’s my last year at school and I’m moving on to different places to make different projects, it got me wondering how I want to leave. More than anything, I think this project embodies my ambitious spirit. I tried a lot of new techniques this year, building on what I learned from previous classes but nonetheless foreign. I modeled humans for the first time as well as retopologizing and rigging. I took on a lot but I never thought to let it overwhelm me. It was a learning experience, and I definitely learned a lot. It reinvigorated my enthusiasm on what I want to do in the future, only making me want to work harder and challenge myself more. I hope with each new project I make, I am able to learn something new about my interests and myself.
